Ok...I had to get this....off of Shopgoodwill.com I have no idea how to use it or exactly what it is...is it a proddy implement? I dont know anything about proddy hooking...if I am even spelling that right. I just thought I would try to figure it out...It has instructions but I dont understand them completely. I wish I could have someone show me how to use this! It will probably take me forever to figure it out...oh well...its kind of a neat thing to have around..perhaps it will just find its way on my wall to decorate my one day studio! Its kind of pretty wood!
I am trying to wait patiently for my used sewing machine to come in the mail. Meanwhile I have been on the library system ordering books on how to applique and other methods for art quilts. My husband asked what I wanted for x-mas this morning. Besides some rug hooking items...materials to start my handbag...and some backing material/linen to keep me happy for awhile with some other new hooking projects....I also asked for a gift certificate to our local quilting store in town...so I can start trying the art quilt thing.
Hi Laura,
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and will add it to my blog roll. That antique hooking machine looks very cool. It kind of looks like a very primitive punch needle tool. I have never tried "punching" but thats what it looks like to me. If you find out any more info on it - please post. Now I'm curious.

Hi Laura ~ it definitely is not a proddy tool ~ so I agree with Kim that it is probably a punch needle!! Give it a try ~ I just bought an Oxford punch and have tried it a bit ~ a little harder than it looks! I love your art quilt ~ very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteA punch needle? I think I would need someone to show me how to use it...I'll try to locate someone around here...but its hard to find local fellow rug artist type people around here. I am kind of on my own most times except with my friends at the Welcome Mat! Right now...I am busy quilting! I need to keep working on my skills with "regular" hooking before I start to work on a whole other type of hooking. I tend to start too many things and am the master of none! Oh, well, I enjoy trying so many things! Thanks for the compliments on my quilt...for a first, I guess its ok...wont win any awards...but what I love in quilting these days is the ability to really do whatever you want using multi mediums and no rules! I dont plan on entering any competitions anyway so I love doing whatever works for me! I like the design the best with this quilt...the finishing of it is giving me some issues...but I will get better with practice! Merry Christmas Alice!
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog looking up sources for the Susan Burr Needle. It is used for rug hooking and I have used it in the past when I worked as a rug hooker for a man who did this exclusively. If you haven't figured out how to use it yet. I'd be happy to share information with you. :) happy stitching.
ReplyDeleteI have one, it is called a speed shuttle and used for rug making. You need to put your hessian on a frame and you work from the back. Put the thread through the hole and then needle, its easy to use once you get the hang of it.
ReplyDeleteif a video on how to ever comes up id like to see it. just not fiquring out how to use it
